What Next? Future Choices 2018
Career Options Fair for Young People 16 to 18
Salisbury City Hall – Tuesday 16th October, 2018 – 9.30am to 4.00pm
We would like to invite you to What Next? Future Choices 2018, a one-stop shop enabling you to promote the opportunities that your organisation is able to offer 16 to 18 year old students. Schools from across Salisbury and the Hampshire and Dorset borders have been invited to attend and this event will be the biggest careers fair in 2018 in South Wiltshire. It will cover further and higher education options, local and national employers, apprenticeships (intermediate, advanced higher and degree), and the voluntary sector. We are delighted that Wiltshire Council and the Salisbury Journal are working in partnership with us, which will offer further opportunities to promote this event to a wider audience.
We are very aware that young people need to have access to all the opportunities that are available to them in order to make informed choices at this important stage of their careers. We also acknowledge that informing students of their options places enormous pressures on all stakeholders in organising and attending careers events. This event also supports the recent Baker Clause (which is an amendment to the Technical and Further Education Act), requiring schools to proactively provide information and access to students regarding alternative providers of Technical & Post 14, 16 and 18 Education.
We would like to support all those interested in this information exchange by offering a single event at a central location. In 2017 we welcomed 1,800 students throughout the day and the feedback we received from them was extremely positive. They benefit from the early planting of ideas and the raising of their aspirations for the future, and the event gives local and national providers the opportunity to reach a significant number of students. We are also pleased to be supporting the Year of Engineering and will have a dedicated area for organisations to promote this sector.
What Next? Future Choices 2018 will be inviting students from Years 11 to 13 (ages 15 – 18) to attend, and this could offer you access to some 1,800 potential recruits. The Careers Fair will be open to students between 9.30am and 4.00pm. Further information on the venue can be seen at http://www.cityhallsalisbury.co.uk/index.php?page=418. Parking is available in the nearby Central Car Park.
